If your day-to-day makeup routine consists of, well, nothing, then the thought of waking up on your wedding day to slap on a full face of foundation and an eye full of glittery shadow might be your worst nightmare. But it doesn’t have to be. Just because it’s your wedding day doesn’t mean you have to change your ways. Follow the advice below to find your makeup style and feel comfortable and confident on your big day.
Get a makeup trial
Booking a trial with a professional makeup artist will be worth every penny you spend. If you’re not used to wearing much makeup, a good makeup artist will work closely with you to select products that feel nice on your skin and emphasise your natural features in minimalist, subtle ways. For example, natural shades and soft foundations will flatter you without overwhelming your skin or comfort levels. A makeup trial is also a great way to check that your skin doesn’t react to certain products. Be open with the makeup artist and tell him/her what makes you feel confident and what feels nice on your skin. You don’t want to be making decisions about liquid versus powder foundation on the morning of the big day itself!
Visit a department store
Even if you never wear makeup, if you’ve walked through any of the large department stores you will have noticed staff members from the many makeup brands giving passing shoppers a makeover. Department store makeovers are great for a few reasons. Not only do they allow you to try out different brands on your skin, you can also try out different looks on different days and pick up tips and techniques, which will be incredibly helpful if you opt to do your makeup yourself.
YouTube is awash with tutorials and videos that tell you everything you need to know about makeup and how to achieve the look you want. It’s an amazing resource, especially if you decide to do your own bridal makeup. Thanks to the many vloggers and professional makeup artists with YouTube channels, you can learn the latest tips and techniques for bridal makeup without having to leave the comfort of your bathroom mirror.
So you’ve decided you want to wear a bit of makeup on your big day, but you just don’t know where to start. There’s a reason brides and grooms everywhere get hooked on Pinterest! With Pinterest you can search for, and save, images of bridal makeup styles or colour palettes you think will suit you - and much more. You can then show these to your makeup artist or learn how to achieve the same look yourself. If you don’t think you can get into Pinterest, you can do the same with traditional wedding magazines.
And don’t forget, when it comes to choosing your wedding day ‘look’, there are no hard and fast rules. If you really don’t want to wear make up, then don’t! But if you decide to do something a bit different for your big day, then following the advice above will help you create a look that makes you feel comfortable and confident – and that’s the only look you really need.
